Cell Life

AIDS is a global pandemic, with billions of dollars being spent on research, development, treatment and education. In South Africa the challenge is huge, with a primary problem being the distribution and adherence to medicinal schemes. If treatment is not properly maintained it cannot be effective and so the problem will continue to get worse. Cell Life is an organisation that aims to help with this issue by sending reminders and information to people across the country regarding treatment via their cell phones. It can also be used as an educational tool improving awareness and prevention. With weak infrastructure, this is a great way to communicate with a population that faces the challenge of AIDS and has such extensive access to cell phones.

Please visit the website to find out more information about this remarkable, yet simple, use of technology.

This is really true new media communication at its best. It is outstanding to see a practible initiative being taken to fight against the AIDS virus.

Cellphones now take on a more responsible feature. It would be effecient and hopefully sustained. Such an initiative should be welcomed within the community as it is for the betterment of mankind.

An enlightening post.

I couldn't agree with you more Dael. Cellphones have proved to be a very useful tool in the nowaday living. A cellphone may be considered as a tool that enables an individual to make and recieve calls, but who would have known that they would also be useful for an HIV positive person. To think that your phone could literally save your life (if your HIV positive). I mean, from what I know, when you start taking Anti-retroviral treatment, you must be precise, in terms of knowing when to take your medicine, it is very helpful to know that there is a resource out there that will help remind you to take it.

ITS NICE TO KNOW THAT THE COMMUNITY IS WORKING TOGETHER IN ENLIGHTENMENT!
